Not only has our specialty focused on diagnosing spinal-related disorders, but we have an expert knowledge base in assessing extremities and TMJ-related Disorders.
Chiropractors use non-surgical techniques, to prevent and correct deformities and to preserve and to improve the function of bones, muscles, joints and their nerve supply, when such function is compromised or impaired by defects, lesions or disease.
Their interventions include:
Manual procedures such as spinal and joint manipulation, mobilizations, soft tissue techniques, and dry needling.
Adjunct treatment including physical agent modalities (ultrasound, electrotherapy, low-level laser therapy, shockwave therapy, and spinal traction), back supports and orthotics.
Specific exercise programs, patient education on ergonomics and posture, nutrition, nutritional supplements, and other lifestyle modifications.
MedX Rehabilitation Systems consists of devices for treating cervical and lumbar related issues. They provide assessment and training of deep spinal muscles.
By strengthening the deep muscles and enhancing their flexibility, chronic pain and its recurrence can be reduced.
3D Newton Rehabilitation System offers isometric exercises using body weight and gravity to stabilize the trunk when it is rotated in 360 degrees. It is used to provide accurate evaluation and training of the deep lower back muscles, the transverse abdominal muscles, and the internal oblique abdominal muscles.
Regular training with both the MedX extension exercises and the 3D Newton device helps rehabilitate the low back and neck. They also are beneficial to athletes wanting to improve muscle coordination, endurance, and balance.
We start with the registration at the reception. Then, you get changed with the provided patient’s gown. You are also welcome to bring your own outfit. When you are in the consultation room, our chiropractor will take a complete medical history, enquire about your lifestyle/ habits, and complete a neuro-orthopaedic examination. After the physical examination, the chiropractor will diagnose and explain your case before proceeding with a hands-on chiropractic treatment that includes manual therapy, exercise instructions, and advice on lifestyle changes.

Gowns are provided if needed during physical examination. Please be assured that if we do not think that we can help you, or if your examination raises any concerns, we will refer you appropriately and liaise with your medical practitioner accordingly.
It is not necessary for you to undergo any X-rays or other tests before your consultation with our chiropractors at Wanchai Chiropractic Clinic. We understand that when in pain, you’ll be keen to begin your treatment as soon as possible. Fortunately, in most cases it is safe and appropriate to begin treatment on your first visit. However, some patients will need an additional X-ray, MRI or blood test first. Our experienced chiropractors will review your case on your first visit and ensure your safety before starting your treatment.
The spine is a complex structure. When pain arises from it, an expert diagnosis is necessary to rule in/out the various possible conditions. While there are numerous claims made about the spine treatment, there seem to be no single cure-all approach.
Our clinicians are up-to-date with current advances in research and will first make an accurate diagnosis to ensure that you are in the right place and that they can give you the best possible care.
One of the great misconceptions about the spine is that your bones can ‘go out of place’. While true dislocations or sub-luxations (partial dislocations) do occur as a result of trauma, these injuries are serious and often require hospitalisation.
So what does happen to the spine?
There are in fact a number of possible spinal problems, and each requires a specific and individual treatment. When the spine hurts, it can be linked to local tissue damage – a tear in the wall of the intervertebral disc, or damage to the lining of a spinal joint. This damage is seldom the product of significant trauma, rather, patients often feel pain during innocuous everyday movement or their pain comes up slowly for no obvious reasons. In many cases, spinal disorders develop gradually over time. The spine might then spontaneously become painful due to a loss of spinal control rather than any loss of strength. When losing control over spinal muscles, simple movements can injure its different parts.
Spinal manipulation seems to work directly by stimulating the muscles surrounding your spine and their control centres located in your brain, spinal cord and nerves. This seems to help these muscles do their job better and allowing the maintenance of good alignment during everyday life movements. We follow this up with exercises that amplify the benefits that you get from your treatments.
In many cases yes. Manipulation of the spine is dose-dependent and its effects are cumulative over time. When manipulation is combined with exercises we can achieve a strong and stable spine that will handle the challenges that you throw at it.
As discussed above, having a pain-free and healthy spine is all about control. Chronic spinal problems have been shown to involve poor balance and coordination of the spinal muscles. So to help you on your path to recovery we’ll need to identify and address any such issue.
It takes time to develop spinal stability and control. Wanchai Chiropractic Clinic physicians are experienced in building tailored rehabilitation programs. We will also follow up on your progress every step of the way.
It is very unlikely to cause injury through manipulative treatment when performed by a highly trained physician, however there must always be an appropriate reason for any treatment prescription. Spinal manipulation needs to be performed by an expert, and the amount and force used must cautiously match the individual patient’s needs. We closely monitor our patient’s condition and evaluate what is and what isn’t working.
Successful treatment involves addressing the initial complaint, identifying and addressing the faulty patterns of muscular control that catalysed the disorder in the first place and preventing its recurrence. All these are necessary for long lasting relief of pain condition.
Your safety is our priority. This involves more than just the treatment you receive.
Safety relies first on an accurate diagnosis. This is why we will take the time to examine you thoroughly on your first visit and, if needed, refer you for additional investigations, so as to make sure that your condition is treated the best possible way.
In addition, we collaborate with other medical professionals to ensure that you are appropriately referred if your condition requires another speciality or approach.
Finally, spinal manipulation has proven itself to be remarkably safe when used appropriately. The effectiveness and safety of any treatment is only as good as the knowledge that underlies its use, and it is this dedication to knowledge that you can rely upon at Wanchai Chiropractic Clinic.
